This fall, both Hamilton and Wenham are holding Special Town Meetings to address a variety of town business, including items that impact our schools.

Please plan to attend — mark your calendars and make childcare arrangements now!

Hamilton Special Town
Saturday, October 17, 9:00 a.m.
Winthrop School Cafeteria

Among the items on the warrant:

  • consideration of a debt exclusion to fund repairs to the heating system at the Cutler School.
Please note that this item will be taken up near the very end of the meeting.

  • consideration of a Stabilization Fund for the Regional School District for building maintenance and capital projects.
  • consideration of a committee that would continue exploring the possibility of merging police departments with Wenham, which has the potential to result in savings for both towns.

Note that this is the first town meeting in Hamilton to be held on a Saturday, which was promoted as being a better day and time for families with children and for seniors. Also note the meeting is at Winthrop, not the High School.

Finally, would you take advantage of on-site child care for the Hamilton meeting if it were offered? If so, please respond to this email. If there is sufficient interest, we’ll see what we can rustle up.

Wenham Special Town Meeting
Tuesday, October 13, 7:30 p.m.

Among the items on the warrant is Article 3, which would direct the town to continue exploring the possibility of merging police departments with Hamilton, as described above.

Note that Wenham plans to convene a second special town meeting in November, if needed, to consider the stabilization fund and/or the Cutler boiler.

A few words about the Cutler Boiler

The School Committee heard yesterday that the Massachusetts School Building Authority will reimburse 42.58% of the project. With that figure in place, the towns will now be able to estimate the impact of the entire project on tax bills. Stay tuned for further details as they become available.

Public tours of the Cutler boiler site are being offered two times before the town meetings: This Saturday, October 3, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and Tuesday, October 6, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Please make the effort to come to town meeting and vote for our schools and our communities. Thanks for your attention.
